There has been a 40 per cent increase in the number of young users in Gamstop in the United Kingdom and a high level of innovation in self-regulating system registration

The United Kingdom Online Self-Exclusion Registration System, Gamstop, reported a 40 per cent increase in the number of consumers aged 16 to 24 in the second half of 2025. During the six-month period ending 31 December 2025, the Gamstop online service had a total of 58,675 new subscribers, an average of 319 registered daily. Of these, between 16 and 24-year-olds accounted for 29 per cent of the new enrolments during that period.

By the end of 2025, the cumulative total number of registered users of the service was 562,000. Registered users can choose three self-exclusion periods: six months, one year or five years. It is noteworthy that the six-month exclusion period is the most popular in a home between the ages of 16 and 24, with 38 per cent of users in that age group choosing this option, while the five-year period is the most common among all users (47 per cent). December 2025 also coincided with the first anniversary of the launch of the “five-year and automatic extension” exclusion in Gamstop. Gamstop indicated that this option would achieve an effect equivalent to a lifetime shield and that the exclusion period would end only after the user had voluntarily cancelled the automatic renewal. According to Gamstop, the rate of adoption of the automatic renewal option has continued to increase steadily. In December 2025, more than 50 per cent of the users who had chosen an exclusion period of five years or more had also implemented the automatic extension, the first time that that proportion had been reached since its introduction in 12 months.

“Continuing and growing enrolment over time highlights the growing public demand for efficient self-exclusion tools. In particular, the increase in the use of automatic renewal options indicates that a growing number of consumers are seeking long-term support and are aware of the value of self-exclusion systems in helping them to manage gambling practices.” Moreover, Gamstop has formally integrated the “multi-operator self-exclusion scheme” into its service system for the entity’s betting shop and renamed it “Gamstop Betting Shots”. According to the presentation, the service will be more closely linked to online self-exclusion mechanisms. The British Government commissioned Gamstop to take over the plan in 2023.

Previously, Gamstop had only supported telephone registration; as a result of this reorganization, consumers could now complete their registration online. Currently, there are about 9,000 registered users of the exclusion plan under the line. Fiona Palmer stressed that “this brand renewal reflects the continuous evolution of Gamstop and will provide users with a clearer, more uniform and more accessible service experience, based on the trust and credibility built over the past eight years”.
