Microsoft admits that Windows 11 updates major errors: the start function sheet, work column or file manager is all affected

Microsoft can be said to have recently been a multi-factor, but it was only after repairing Microsoft 365, which rendered the archives unusable, that on November 20, NVIDIA publicly pointed out that Windows updates had led to a decline in game performance, and that, as a result, the Hotfix drive had been released on an urgent basis to try to remedy the situation, and in a time of confusion Microsoft rare admitted that Windows 11 itself had systemic problems.

According to the support document KB5072911 published by Microsoft Blog, this question is related to the XAML component and relates to the entire Windows shell, which includes all the main operational interfaces, including the start-up functional chart, the work column, the archive manager, search, set-up, etc.

Even more surprising, Microsoft did not officially acknowledge it until November 2025, but the problem did exist as early as July 2025, when the Patch Tuesday update (KB5062553) took place, amounting to four months.

As Windows 11 25H2 shares the same basic code as 24H2, the latest version has also been affected.

In the support document, Microsoft indicated that the problem would occur:

  • First log-in after installation of cumulative updates released in July 2025 or later (KB5062553)

  • Once installed with a non-persistent operating system (e.g. virtual desktop VDI), every login is repeated

Such devices are subject to a large number of configurations during the build-up phase, and therefore any package error immediately results in system instability.

Microsoft further noted that the updating of the following XAML-related packages was directly relevant to the problem:

  • Microsoft Windows. Clinic.CBS cw5n1h2txyewy

  • Microsoft.UI.Xaml.CBS 8wekyb3d8bbwe

  • Microsoft Windows.Clint.Core cw5n1h2txyewy

Microsoft lists the identified errors, “the shell elements may fail and return the screen error, or the silent failure to implement it,” and the impact is very wide:

  • Explorer.exe.

  • ShellHost.exe.

  • Start menu error

  • Windows settings cannot be started

  • Crash on startup of any application using XAML

  • The archives have been activated, but the work column has disappeared.

  • Initialization of XAML Island-related interface failed

  • Immersive Shell cannot load

If readers are now using Windows 11 and find a starter functional chart or work column suddenly missing, this may be the error.

Formal repairs are still under development, and Microsoft offers two solutions for the time being:

Re-register Shell Package (executed through PowerShell)

The following instructions enable the re-registration of missing Impressive Shell packages: “Registration of lost packages in user sessions and restarting SiHost to allow Immpersive Shell and associated components to capture them. I’m sorry.

2. The entry batch script provided by Microsoft

“For a non-sustainable environment, the entry of scripts remains the best option. Creates a batch archive wrapper, to be executed simultaneously before Explorer starts. This batch (BAT) avoids the premature start-up of Explorer before the required package is completed:

More details can be found on the official website for KB507291 supporting documents. Microsoft has not yet announced the time of restoration, but it is expected that subsequent updates will be critical when almost all core interfaces are affected.
